What is Tenant Registration?
Tenant registration is a compulsory method imposed by the Government of Pakistan and being implemented by the Punjab Police. Punjab Police visits the residence or rented shop/place of a tenant to make sure he has completed the process of tenant registration.
What Are the Benefits of Tenant Registration?
The general aspect of the public especially owners and tenants is that tenant registration is not compulsory and it’s a burden on them. There are some benefits of this process which are:
- It’s illegal not to do so.
- Make sure whether the tenant is a criminal or not
- Police provide you security and backup in criminal and fraud cases done by tenants.
Who Needs Tenant Registration?
Following are the persons who need tenant registration:
- Owners of the property who are giving his property on rent
- Tenants who are renting the property
Why Tenant Registration is Compulsory by Punjab Police?
According to THE PUNJAB INFORMATION OF TEMPORARY RESIDENTS ACT 2015, whenever a house or hostel is rented, the real estate owner/tenant/agent must register data (owner, property, tenant information) with the relevant police station for registration. Registration can be done by visiting the police station in charge or the nearest Police Khidmat Markaz. After successful registration, the host provides a certificate to the resident which he can use to avoid harassment during the search.
How To Do Tenant Registration Online?
It was a difficult process before until this process of tenant registration was started online. The tenant and owner of the property had to fill affidavit and tenant registration form for the registration of the tenant. Now the process is very simple and easy. You just need to visit Punjab Police’s official website for this purpose.
Online Tenant Registration Process in Punjab
Step 1: Go to this link https://www.punjabpolice.gov.pk/tenants
Step 2: It will show you the form as shown in the picture below
Enter any code in the code field and enter your phone number in the mobile number area. Then click send code (code bhejain).
Step 3: Open the same form again and enter the code sent by Punjab Police Department to your phone number also enter your phone number again and click verify code (code ki tasdeeq karain)
Step 4: A new window will appear asking for registration. Select the status like Tenant, Owner, or Dealer. Enter ID Card number of the tenant, owner, and citizenship. After providing all the information click on next step (agla marhala).
Step 5: This is the last step of the process. After clicking on the next step a new window will appear. Fill the form with the right information and submit the form. See the pictures below for a better understanding.
Tenant Registration System (TRS)
Here is the data provided by Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) who designed the online system for registration. According to their data 637635 tenants are registered online from which 7532 found criminal record holders.
Tenant Registration Islamabad Process
Online registration is closed however tenant acknowledgement and tenant information can be obtained by visiting the nearest Police Station or Police Khidmat Markaz for this purpose. The following are the required documents:
- Tenant’s Original and copy of CNIC.
- Owner’s Original and copy of CNIC.
- Passport size Photograph of Owner and Tenant.
- Copy of Rent Agreement in the affidavit.
- Original Rent Agreement must show.
- Other concerned documents if required.
- The tenant must be present
- In case Property Dealer Involvement
- Passport size Photograph of Dealer.
- Original and copy of Property Dealer CNIC.
- Property Dealer and Tenant must be present.
Other Ways of Tenant Registration in Punjab
Anyone can apply online for this purpose but if you have serious issues or you are unable to apply online there are other ways to get this done.
As it already mentioned that people needs to visit nearest Police Station or Police Khidmat Markaz in order to complete their registration people can also do the same in Punjab Province.

Tenant Registration at Police Khidmat Markaz
There’s a slight difference registering the tenant in Police Station vs registering the tenant at Police Khidmat Markaz. When an applicant visits Police Station, they submit the documents and give the applicant a computerized receipt which is the final outcome of the registered tenant.
By visiting Police Khidmat Markaz an applicant (tenant )provides them a filled tenant registration application form, affidavit (rent agreement), and 1 passport size picture.
The computer operator at Police Khidmat Markaz also takes a fresh photo of the tenant on his computer.

Tenant Registration Peshawar, KPK
Seeing the security situation in the province, the KPK government issued a regulation on hotels and tenants in 2013 on the recommendation of the KPK police. In this case, all hotel guests and residents living in the rented building must register with the local police and obtain a certificate of objection from the local police.
