2024 was the year of promotions that the Punjab Police became increasingly transformed. It was also a year of career advancements for the Punjab Police. This is the largest personnel development program in department history, as 4,500 officers were promoted to several different ranks.

The promotion wave swept through all levels of the Punjab Police hierarchy in 2024. At the senior level, 12 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) advanced to Superintendent of Police (SP) positions, while 92 Inspectors stepped up to DSP roles. The mid-tier ranks saw equally impressive movements, with 394 Sub-Inspectors earning Inspector status and 131 Traffic Wardens progressing to Senior Traffic Warden positions.

Lower ranks weren’t left behind in this promotional drive. The force witnessed 887 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) moving up to Sub-Inspector positions, while 857 Head Constables earned ASI ranks. Additionally, 1,730 Constables received promotions to Head Constable positions, creating a ripple effect of advancement throughout the department.

  • 27 Junior Clerks
  • 19 Stenographers
  • 16 Senior Scale Stenographers
  • 1 Private Secretary
  • 1 Assistant Director
  • 73 Technical Cadre employees in the Special Branch

The Punjab Police leadership took a personal interest in promotion ceremonies, which led to the personal appearance of the Inspector General of Police, Dr Usman Anwar. Since then, he has had his hand on the department’s levers, overseeing about 26,000 departmental promotions during the two years.
